Blues Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as Pure Gossip

Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has labelled recent talk linking him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".

The Italian manager, who once served as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, responded to the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

Maresca, appointed Chelsea manager in the summer of 2024, is under contract that runs until 2029, with a possible extension available.

"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."

He further elaborated, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my attention, I have stated many times, is solely on this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."

Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the Premier League, are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a 12:30 GMT kick-off.

Strain Following Recent Remarks

Maresca's most recent comments follow in the wake of he described a previous two-day spell as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.

Those initial remarks had fueled widespread talk of a possible disagreement between the coach and the club's key decision-makers.

When asked if he had since spoken with the club's sporting directors, Maresca replied, "We are in the same building, so we speak about various topics. But about the post-Everton press conference, no."

The manager however affirmed he would definitely remain at the club next season and called on the fans to keep backing the team".

In more positive news, Maresca indicated that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, potentially available for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.

Perspective: Unresolved Tension

The perceived strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board persists as an open wound that continues to create unease.

While there has been no further escalation of the matter in the open, there has also been no apology offered, leaving the matter unaddressed.

The atmosphere during these press conferences has become increasingly awkward, raising concerns it could undermine what has otherwise been a decent beginning to the campaign.

Chelsea's sporting situation is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have reached the League Cup semi-finals, and can secure a favourable Champions League position with good results in their final games.
